Introducing the Write A Story Challenge – August Edition

Chautona Havig and I have teamed up to bring you the #writeastorychallenge on Instagram. This challenge is meant to help you have fun while writing, break through writer’s block, boost creativity, and even help outline your next big novel. So, join us in August as we write a short story one scene at a time.

August Edition Write A Story Challenge

Here’s how to play along for the Write A Story Challenge – August Edition:

  1. Each day use the prompt word and write one to three sentences that includes it. How you use the prompt in your scene is up to you!
  2. Post your newest scene to Instagram.
  3. Use the hashtag #writeastorychallenge.
  4. Tag @chautonahavig and @april_picayunepen so we can cheer you on!

By the end of the month you’ll have a short story of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words.

Wait! What if I don’t like that day’s prompt? No problem! Substitute it with one of the Bonus Words. But there’s a catch (isn’t there always): you can only substitute a daily prompt up to ten times without repeats.

Ready? Set. Write!

  1. I’m looking forward to this! It will definitely stretch me. 😉 Is Heaven supposed to be a prompt for two different days?

    1. Yes, “heaven” is on there twice and it’s not a typo. Feel free to substitute another word with a similar meaning or use a Bonus Word. I’ll make sure that the September prompts don’t repeat. Good luck and have fun! That’s what the challenge is really about. 🙂
